We are pleased and honoured to inform you that our director Massimo Rossi has been entrusted with the task of creating the exhibition of the Mantova and Gonzaga collection of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena for the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua. This collection began to take shape in 1986 with the acquisition of the Casero and Giulio Superti Furga collections, and was enriched in 1993 by the prestigious collection of Count Alessandro Magnaguti, a Mantuan nobleman who over almost half a century built up an important collection of Gonzaga coins and medals. The current collection, consisting of 2184 specimens, represents the most important collection of Mantua and Gonzaga coins and medals visible in the world today and is second only to that formed by King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy, preserved in Palazzo Massimo in Rome but currently not accessible to the public. The exhibition will take place inside the Palazzo Gonzaga consisting of over 1000 rooms covering 35,000 square metres in a building called La Rustica, built in 1539-1540 by Giulio Romano.Palazzo Ducale in Mantua was the Gonzaga Palace for almost four centuries and inside it preserves the Camera degli Sposi, a Renaissance masterpiece frescoed by Andrea Mantegna.
